Research and expedition ship Akademik Fyodorov approaches Antarctica

The research and expedition ship Akademik Fyodorov with members of Russia's 48th Antarctic Expedition on board is approaching the Antarctic continent. According to Vyacheslav Martyanov, the deputy head of the Russian Antarctic Expedition, the ship is expected to approach the Russian Antarctic station Novolazarevskaya and put ashore those of the polar explorers that are going to work at Novolazarevskaya. Further on, the ship will deliver fuel to the station Mirny and head towards the closed station Progress, which polar explorers will re-activate by mounting sewage disposal plants and building a runway for heavy transport planes.
