Moscow has threatened Washington to break off diplomatic relations if US lawmakers decide to declare Russia a "country sponsor of terrorism," Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
"Such an application of their own legislation, contrary to international law, may be seen by senators and congressmen as a terrible punishment that can force Russia to live in accordance with the rules-based world order invented by the United States. Naive. At the same time, it is forgotten that any action gives rise to opposition and the logical result of such a step there may also be a break in diplomatic relations, after which Washington risks finally crossing the point of no return with all the ensuing consequences," Zakharova said at a briefing.
She added that this should be well understood in Washington.
“We are ready for any development of the situation, and if Washington decides to go to a complete stop of interaction with Moscow, we will get over it,” Zakharova stressed.
