Little Girls Should Go to School

Many countries still follow the tradition of bride-money payment, especially that the sums of such payments are traditionally very high, which certainly makes parents happy. Some of them desire to get as much bride-money for their daughters as possible.

Medieval traditions seem to be still popular in Nairobi, where a man decided to get rich at the expense of his daughter. Father of a 14-year-old schoolgirl arranged an engagement of the girl without her consent. Then he told the daughter that she would soon marry a wonderful man, but just with a slight defect. The prospective fiance recently celebrated his 60th birthday. However, he added that the age of the man wouldn’t frustrate the marriage, especially that a large bride-money was already paid for the girl.

When the young girl understood that the words of her father were not a joke, she immediately invented her own plan for salvation. She disliked the idea of marrying the old man. That is why she decided to escape. The girl covered a distance of 60 kilometers, reached the residence of the governor and complained to him about the problem. The governor proved to be a good man and censured actions of the girl’s parents. He issued an order on arrest of the greedy father and stated that little girls must go to school and study, but not marry.
