A Russian policeman rescued a child in Liberia, whom the locals were trying to sacrifice.
Lt. Col. Sergey Safronov is in the country as an advisor to the Liberian National Police on operational matters. He received information about the possible sacrifice of the child, and he decided to save the boy.
The officer organized a fake deal, as a result of which the boy was bought for $150. The seller was made aware that the child would then be killed for sacrifice. The man, who was a distant relative of the boy, was arrested.
Sacrifice in Liberia is commonplace as the locals worship traditional deities. Victims are mostly children under ten years of age.
