Korean culture festival opens in Primorye

The festival of Korean culture opened in Vladivostok (centre in the Primorye Territory, Russian Far East) on Friday with the ceremony of laying wreaths to the memorial in memory of the Korean settlements in the area. The organising committee provided this information on Friday.

The festival of the Korean culture takes place in Primorye for the third time. The cities of Ussuriisk and Vladivostok already held it, and this time the festival's host will be Nakhodka, with the opening ceremony being held in Vladivostok.

The programme of the holiday includes the Korean language competition, the national cuisine festival in which 11 national cultural associations of Primorye will take part, the festive procession along the Nakhodka streets and the gala concert.

Well-known creative groups of Primorye Koreans - the ensemble of drummers Samulnori and the Ariran people's ensemble will perform.

For the first time guests from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea will participate in the festival with a creative collective from Pyongyang representing the country. Taking part in the festival in addition to Russia, the DPRK and South Korea will be Japan and China as well as representatives of practically all national diasporas of the Primorye Territory - Armenians, Azeris, Jews, Tatars, Chechens, Germans, Belarussians and others.

According to the consul general of the Republic of Korea in Vladivostok, the festival "will greatly contribute to strengthening and developing international ties between the Asia-Pacific countries."
