The festival of Russian art in Cannes

The sixth festival of the Russian art opened on Wednesday evening in Cannes on the French Cote d'Azur.

The first day of the festival was marked by the opening of the exhibition - The Revival of the Classic Engraving - in the Cannes Palace of Festivals. It displays the works by modern masters of engraving from the Russian Cultural Fund.

But the central event of the first festival evening was the concert given by the Russian Pyatnitsky Folk Chorus. As the art director of this famous chorus, Alexandra Permyakova, told RIA Novosti in the exclusive interview, the chorus decided not to sing traditionally popular songs as "Kalinka" and "Moscow Evenings," but to surprise the audience by "a real folk programme." According to Alexandra Permyakova, the programme specially prepared for Cannes includes "the songs which men and women sing while working in the fields, wedding songs, songs which men sing when going to the war, and songs which weeping women sing when seeing off their husbands to the war." At the end of the concert the chorus performs the songs in modern rhythms.

The second day of the festival will be devoted to the Russian cinematography. The Cannes spectators will be offered fiction films: "Cuckoo" of Alexander Rogozhkin, "In the Movement" of Filipp Yankovsky, and "Casus belli" of Igor Ugolnikov, as well as an animated cartoon "Cats in the Rain."
