Days of China in St. Petersburg

Days of China will be held in St. Petersburg from August 18 through 29 devoted to the 300th anniversary of the northern capital (St. Petersburg, the former capital of the Russian empire situated on the Neva river, is also called the Russian northern capital) said a spokesman for the city administration's foreign relations committee.

The colloquium "Russia-China. Cultural Bridge." and photo exhibition "The World's Cultural and Natural Heritage of China" will be held within the framework of the event.

In addition, the inhabitants of St. Petersburg will see the performances of the famous Chinese circus - Guangdong circus group, and the State Orchestra of China will give concerts in the Mariinsky theatre and in the Smolny Cathedral.

At the end of the Days of China, the designers of the Beijing "New Silk Route" (the trade route from China to Europe in the middle centuries) model agency will show their works created on the motives of the Chinese historical costumes.

The St. Petersburg committee on foreign relations pointed out that the cultural ties between China and St. Petersburg have been intensively developing since 1986. And the Shanghai International Festival of Children' Creative Work, Days of Chinese Culture in Russia and the guest performances of the Mariinsky theatre in Shanghai are the best examples of these relations.
