Manchester Week, due to open here today, is timed to coincide with the 40-th anniversary of twin-city relations between Manchester, Great Britain, and St. Petersburg, which is Russia's "northern capital".
Talking to RIA-NOVOSTI here today, officials at the British consulate-general noted that representatives of Manchester's cultural and public circles had prepared more than 20 music performances, sports events, as well as socio-economic events, for the people of St. Petersburg.
Manchester Week stipulates performances by two Manchester orchestras, as well as those by the Manchester street theater. Famous British poet Lemn Sissay will organize a soiree. A delegation of the Manchester commerce-and-industry chamber, which co-sponsors Manchester Week on a par with the Manchester city hall, will also be staying in St. Petersburg all these days.
