On June 22-26, the Russian capital will be hosting the White Nights in Moscow international music festival. Head of the Mariinsky Theatre (St. Petersburg) Valery Gergiyev is the initiator and art director of the festival dedicated to St. Petersburg's 300th anniversary. The Moscow Culture Committee, the directorate of the Moscow Easter Festival, Valery Gergiyev's foundations and the management of the White Nights' Stars international music festival are sponsors of the event.
The Mariinsky Theatre's orchestra conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen (Finland) will open the festival in the Big Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. The orchestra will perform compositions by Shostakovich, Stravinsky and Insomnia by Salonen.
The Bamberg Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jonathan Nott will perform in Moscow for the first time as part of the festival. A concert of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Valery Gergiyev will close the festival.
