AT&T became the first retail store chain to showcase and utilize the Microsoft Surface.
Microsoft Surface is a forthcoming Multi-touch product from Microsoft which is developed as software and hardware combination technology that allows a user, or multiple users, to manipulate digital content by the use of natural motions, hand gestures, or physical objects.
AT&T has rolled out the Microsoft Surface in five locations in four different cities, with 22 devices in total being sent to the stores.
The AT&T locations are in Atlanta, San Antonio, San Francisco, and New York.
They feature a 30-inch screen as well as a multi-touch surface.
You are allowed to place products on top of it. The Surface will then read the products, such as a cell phone, and then display information in regards to the device.
It uses cameras to read gestured on its surface, and responds to different hand motions and movements. You can do thing such as zoom, drag, pull, etc.
We’re pretty confident AT&T may be getting some new customers in these locations who are more interested in playing with the Surface than the actual phones they sell.
