Bombs thrown at home of imam of Ingushetia's main city mosque

Two bombs were thrown during the night at the home of the imam of the central mosque of Ingushetia's principal city, but no one was injured in the blasts, the Russian republic's Interior Ministry said.

The explosive devices were thrown over a fence surrounding the house of imam Khizir Tsoloyev in the city of Nazran and landed in an open cellar of the house, the ministry said.

Ingushetia, which borders war-battered Chechnya, has been plagued by attacks by militants targeting officials and government facilities. Mainstream Muslims also apparently are regarded with suspicion by militants affiliated with more radical strains of Islam, the AP reports.

Mufti Isa Khamkhoyev, Ingushetia's top Islamic leader, was seriously wounded on Jan. 31 when gunmen opened fire on his car.
