North Korean leader gets message from Russian President

Special envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin Konstantin Pulikovski delivered North Korean leader Kim Jong Il a message saying that the two countries' relationship will strengthen.

Pulikovski, presidential envoy to the Far East Federal District of Russia, met with Kim and presented him with the personal letter and gift from Putin, the Korean Central News Agency said.

It said that Kim expressed his thanks, and that the two held a warm and friendly talk. The report did not specify what topics they discussed.

However, KCNA said Putin's message agreed with Kim's belief that their nations' ties will develop further. The message came on the occasion of 60th anniversary of Korea's liberation from Japanese colonial rule, KCNA said.

"It is our expectation that the constructive dialogue on urgent international issues will gain in depth in the interests of peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and the rest of Asia," Putin's message was quoted by the AP.
