Next week, the Russian government will adopt a draft system of new tariffs on electricity, developed by the RAO UES energy holding, head of RAO UES Anatoly Chubais announced during the All-Russia meeting on the preparation of housing and communal services for the fall-winter period held in Moscow on Saturday.
According to Mr. Chubais, the proposed tariff system will change the pricing policy in the sphere of energy industry and it has been already coordinated with major ministries.
"Our proposal to the government is an evolutionary measure; it will give us hope for stability in the future," said Mr. Chubais. He also stated that the essence of the proposed tariff system lies in the fact that the prices for electricity must be determined according to inflation rather than the expenses. Besides, tariffs will be established for a period of three years, instead of one year, as it is a common practice today. According to the head of the Russian energy holding, it would mean "the actual decrease in tariffs." He also promised that in three years the increase in electricity tariffs "will be stopped completely." "It is a very complicated task," however, RAO UES will do everything possible to accomplish it," stated Mr. Chubais in a casual conversation with journalists between the sessions of the meeting.
Mr. Chubais stressed that heads of regional branches of the holding will be assigned additional responsibilities in order to accomplish the set goals. "Those who manage to work under new conditions and successfully stop the tariff increase will be rewarded, and those who fail to accomplish their task will be replaced," announced Anatoly Chubais.
