Aeroflot to double passenger traffic by 2010

The Russian airline Aeroflot plans to double its passenger traffic to 12.3m people by the year 2010, General Director of the airline Valery Okulov reported speaking at a round-table meeting on competitiveness and development prospects of Russian airlines. Okulov said that in 2002 Aeroflot's passenger traffic amounted to 5.6m people, whereas this year the figure is expected to reach 5.8m people. By 2007, the company's passenger traffic is forecasted to total 9.4m people.

According to Okulov, the task of doubling passenger traffic by the year 2010 is quite feasible for other Russian airlines and will require, first and foremost, the development of airport facilities. Talking about Aeroflot, he said that the company needed to have its own terminal in Moscow as well as to develop airports in the Russian Far East for receiving large-size airplanes.
