Those attending the 4th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Eurasian Economic Community (EURASEC), which was held in St. Petersburg in Monday, discussed issues relating to the assembly's activity to guarantee legally the Priority Areas of EURASEC Development for 2003-2006. The participants in the session also considered prospective forms and mechanisms of inter-parliamentary interaction and how to enhance the parliamentary element of integration processes.
The parliamentarians also examined the assembly's rules on legal acts that define the order for their preparation, consideration and adoption, as well as their relation to national legislation.
In addition, the session's participants discussed a draft recommendation stipulating that national draft laws should be subject to legal examination to ensure that they conform with international treaties.
While speaking to journalists today, State Duma Speaker Gennady Seleznyov pointed to the "importance of regulating national legislation." He also reported that the session had also focused on the problem of synchronising EURASEC member-nations' accession to the WTO.
The next, fifth, session of the EURASEC Inter-Parliamentary Assembly will be held in April 2004 in Astana (Kazakhstan).
