The Council of the upper house of the Russian parliament made a decision on Tuesday to advise the senators to ratify the Russia-US Treaty on Strategic Offensive Reductions at the May 28 session, Sergei Mironov, the Chairman of the Federation Council told journalists.
According to his words, the SOR is "very important for Russia's strategic and national security and its nuclear potential." He said the upper house would be discussing the ratification issue behind closed doors, with Defence Ministry officials attending.
The Federation Council is also planning to ratify the Russian-Lithuanian treaties on the Russian-Lithuanian state border and on division of the exclusive economic zone and the continental shelf in the Baltic Sea. According to Mironov, the senators have no objections to these documents.
