Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Georgy Mamedov and Pakistani Ambassador to Moscow Iftikhar Murshed discussed the post-war settlement in Iraq on Thursday. The meeting was held on the initiative of the Pakistani side.
The meeting focused on several vital international issues connected with regional conflicts and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
In connection with Pakistan's forthcoming presidency in the UN Security Council, Georgy Mamedov and Iftikhar Murshed considered the UN central role in the post-war settlement in Iraq. The Russian deputy foreign minister pointed to the importance of "special Russian-US contacts and consultations, first of all, at the top level" in the Iraqi settlement.
