100,000 people have died in the past decade in the armed struggle between Armed Islamic Groups and Algiers.
For the first time since 1992, there has been a bomb attack in the region of Cabilia, 250 kilometres east of Algiers, as a bomb exploded in the entrance to a market. There are reported to have been at least 4 deaths and 14 wounded, although eye-witness reports point towards a much higher figure.
This attack comes in the run-up to the legislative elections on 30th May, which Cabilia has decided to boycott because it opposes Algiers’ authority over the region.
