Eighty-two companies with foreign interest were registered in the Moscow region last year. They created more than 5,600 new jobs. This information was presented by Boris Gromov, governor of the Moscow region, at his meeting with ambassadors of member-countries of the British Commonwealth. He stressed that the number of registered companies was growing with every passing year. All in all, there are over 700 companies with foreign interest in the Moscow region now. Gromov said that a number of major projects of foreign companies, such as Hochland and Ehrmann (Germany), Danon (France) and Ikea (Sweden), had been implemented in the Moscow region last year. Work is under way with the Swiss company Nestle (with the volume of investments exceeding 40 million dollars), the German company Krueger (about 20 million dollars), the French company Michelin (with the volume of planned investments to exceed 100 million dollars), and some other companies. Touching on mutually advantageous cooperation with the British Commonwealth countries, he noted that 33 joint ventures with the British companies' participation, 38 joint Russian ventures with Cyprus, 3 with Singapore, and 16 with Canada had been registered in the Moscow region so far. The British companies rank first in the total volume of investments (about 50 million dollars), being followed by Canada (5 million dollars). The leader among Canadian companies is MacDonald's.
