The organisational standard of Russia’s police is no match to social expectations and to the scale of the threats faced, Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Rushailo is quoted as saying at the ministry’s extended collegium. Mr. Rushailo said he had visited last year nearly a third of all Russian regions which led him to think that "the police performance in some of them is really disappointing," RIA Novosti reports. In his words, the police’s poor performance is rooted in the misconduct of the command. Mr. Rushailo vowed that from now on the demands made to top officials in the interior system would be raised tremendously. "Otherwise, we will be unable to accomplish the tasks facing us," he emphasized.
