Russia against construction of pipeline through Caspian Sea

Russia welcomes negotiations between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan on oil exports, but does not support the construction of a pipeline through the Caspian Sea, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Viktor Kalyuzhny, who is also the special presidential representative on the settlement of the Caspian Sea status, reported to the Trend news agency today. According to him, "it is necessary to take into account the uniqueness of the resources of this area and to expose them to risks as little as possible".

As Kalyuzhny reported, Russia suggests adding a special provision to the convention, which would forbid constructing export pipelines through the Caspian Sea.
