Number of Russian Mobile Phone Subscribers Approaching Number of Fixed Line Subscribers

The number of mobile subscribers in Russia is catching up with the number of fixed line subscribers. This was announced yesterday by MegaFon general director Yuri Pavlenko at a press conference devoted to the opening of the NORVEKOM 2003 international telecommunications exhibition.

According to Pavlenko, there are currently 30 million fixed phone lines in Russia and around 19 million mobile phone subscribers. In 2002 the number of mobile subscribers in Russia more than doubled, from 8 million to 17.8 million.
