The volume of investments in the Russian fuel and energy sector in 2001 was 79 percent of the 2001 amount, the Energy Ministry said in the materials prepared for a meeting of the ministry's board. The volume of investments to be made this year is planned to be 708.4bn rubles ($22.38m), which is 31.6 percent more than last year. Some 3,937 new oil wells, energy facilities with a 1.206m kilowatt capacity, 884.8 kilometers of gas pipelines, 776.6 kilometers of oil pipelines and coal producing facilities with a 16.6m-ton capacity are to be put into operation this year.
In 2002 capital investments in the electrical energy sector amounted to 79.74bn rubles ($2.52bn). Electrical energy exports were 18.6bn kilowatt/hour worth $261m.
