One of the nameless peaks of the Sayany mountains has been named after general Alexander Lebed, the former governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
The deputies of the Legislative Assembly of the Krasnoyarsk Territory have approved the proposal of the administration of the Yermakovsky district to name after Alexander Lebed a nameless peak of the Yergaki range in the Western Sayany mountains.
It is in these mountains that the Mi-8 helicopter crashed in April 2002. On its board were Governor of the Territory Alexander Lebed, his deputy Nadezhda Kolbi, the leaders of the Yermakovsky district and reporters.
They were flying to the Sayany mountains to inspect the new perspective downhill ski course. Dense fog made the flight very difficult, and the pilots lowered the helicopter to a dangerous height. The blades touched an electric transmission line, and the helicopter fell.
