The Rosneft oil company and Afghan-Rosneft joint company have signed a contract for the supplies of petroleum products to Afghanistan in the year 2003. According to Rosneft's press service, the contract provides for 2.5 million tonnes of petroleum products worth about USD 500 million supplied by the oil company to Afghanistan over the next year. This quantity will cover 50% of the needs of Afghan economy.
The Rosneft oil company is 100% government-owned. In 2001, its sales receipts amounted to USD 2.776 billion, balance-sheet profits-over USD 950 million, and investments-over USD 638 million. The Afghan-Rosneft joint company is owned on-par by Rosneft and the Afghan Zahed Valid. It was chartered early this December for the realisation of the parties' mutually advantageous projects.
