Russian Military Production Soars: Ammunition, Artillery, Aircraft Output Skyrocket

Putin Reveals Massive Surge in Russian Weapons Production Since 2022

Russia has significantly expanded the production of key weapons systems and military equipment since 2022, responding to operational demands and long-term defense planning. Speaking at a meeting on the state armament program, President Vladimir Putin outlined the scale of growth across nearly all segments of the defense industry.

"Compared with 2022, the production of critically demanded military products in 2025 has increased many times over,” Putin said.

Sharp Growth Across All Major Weapons Categories

According to the president, the most dramatic increase occurred in the production of ammunition and weapons of destruction, which rose more than 22 times. Output of individual body armor increased nearly 18 times, while artillery production grew by a factor of 9.6.

The aviation sector also recorded strong growth. Aircraft production increased 4.6 times, while armored vehicle manufacturing rose steadily across multiple categories. Production of main battle tanks and heavy armored systems increased 2.2 times, and output of light armored vehicles, including infantry fighting vehicles and armored personnel carriers, grew 3.7 times.

Vehicles, Communications, and Electronic Warfare

Automotive military equipment production expanded 5.7 times, reflecting rising logistical requirements. Rocket artillery output increased 9.6 times, while communications equipment and electronic warfare systems saw a 12.5-fold increase, highlighting the growing importance of battlefield connectivity and countermeasures.

Putin stressed that the defense industry operates at a stable pace and fully supplies the Russian Armed Forces, including units involved in ongoing military operations.

"This result was achieved thanks to the coordinated work of defense enterprises and the economy as a whole. Without financial stability and overall economic development, this would not have been possible,” the president said.

Defense Spending and Budget Priorities

In June, Putin stated that Russia currently spends 13.5 trillion rubles on defense, equivalent to 6.3 percent of gross domestic product. He acknowledged that increased military spending contributed to inflationary pressure but noted that authorities are actively working to control price growth.

Defense expenditures accounted for 32.5 percent of total budget spending in 2025. At the same time, the government plans a gradual reduction in military spending over the coming years.

For 2026, ensuring national defense and security remains one of the top budget priorities. A total of 12.93 trillion rubles has been allocated for these purposes, reflecting a continued focus on maintaining military readiness while balancing broader economic objectives.
