In response to recent attacks on Russian tankers, the Russian military will widen its strikes on Ukrainian ports and any vessels entering them. President Vladimir Putin announced the measure while speaking with journalists after his address at the VTB Russia Calling! forum.
The head of state described the attacks on Russian vessels in the special economic zone of another country as acts of piracy.
Earlier, Turkish authorities reported an attack on the tanker Midvolga 2, registered at the Greater Port of St. Petersburg and sailing under the Russian flag. The vessel was carrying vegetable oil and was en route to Georgia. Official statements confirmed that the tanker had thirteen crew members on board. Following the attack, the ship proceeded to the port of the city of Sinop.
