Iran's first gas platform carrier made by the Iran Sadra Marine Industrial Company (ISMIC) was launched.
This Iranian-made carrier, which shows Iranian specialists' proficiency in design and construction, has saved Iran $15 million in foreign currency.
This type of carrier is a basic requirement of gas platform transportation and installation. The manufacture of carrier took 18 months at a cost of 70 billion rials.
Khadivar, the manager of the project, elaborated on the technical details of the carrier, saying that it is 124 meters long, 30 meters wide, 8 meters high, weighs 4,500 tons, and can carry a 12,000-ton platform.
He added that the carrier will soon transport a 7,000-ton platform to be installed in the South Pars gas field. ISMIC has completed 98 percent of the construction of this platform.
Before this carrier was built, $15 million was spent hiring oil platform carriers from neighboring countries, Khadivar said.
