Mi-8 helicopter crashes in Russia during training flight

On February 8, a Mi-8 helicopter crashed in the Pskov region of Russia, killing three pilot crew and one technician, officials with the Defense Ministry said.

The Mi-8 helicopter was conducting a scheduled training flight in the Pskov region. At 7:21 p.m. the connection with the helicopter was lost, Interfax reports.

According to the Defense Ministry, the Mi-8 made an emergency landing in a wooded area, a few kilometers far from the airport. The chopper crashed near the village of Cherepyagino in the Ostrovsky district of the Pskov region. The bodies of all the four victims were recovered, officials said.

Noteworthy, another Mi-8 helicopter disappeared in the Khanty-Mansiysk autonomous region in the autumn of 2014. The remains of the passengers and pilots of the disappeared Mi-8 helicopter were found only in the summer of 2015.

In addition, in July of 2015, another Mi-8 disappeared as it was flying from Nizhnevartovsk to Surgut in the north of Russia. The helicopter has not been found yet; the search operation had to be stopped due to weather conditions.
