Kamchatka: Fire continuing at artillery depots

Russian First Deputy Defence Minister Colonel-General Alexander Belousov has come to Kamchatka for analysis of the situation at artillery depots where a fire has occurred with explosion of ammunition.

Belousov has visited the incident site and praised the action of military and emergency services that averted human victims. He will visit on Sunday residential areas located within 15 kilometres of the incident. The fire at artillery depots began on September 30. It has been localised.

Ammunition explosions are continuing, but their intensity is much lower as compared to initial hours of the fire.

The range of explosions is some 200 meters, Itar-Tass reports. Nine residential areas in the Yelizovo district are in a dangerous vicinity to the depots. About 8,000 people have been evacuated from the district. The military prosecutor’s office is investigating the incident.
