More than 75 kg of heroin were seized on the Tajik-Afghan border in the past 24 hours, reported Colonel Alexander Kondratyev, who heads the press service of the Russian Border Guards' Group in Tajikistan.
Last night, border guards from the Pyanj detachment, which is stationed 200 km south of Dushanbe, came across two trespassers who had just alighted at the Tajik shore of the border river Pyanj. Apparently, the pair had concealed their goods in a cache and returned to Afghanistan. The cache turned out to contain two bags of heroin weighing a total of 51 kg 230 g.
In a separate development on Sunday, border guards acting jointly with officers from the Tajik presidential Drug Control Agency discovered a cache with 24 kg of heroin on the border section controlled by the Moscow border detachment, which is stationed 180 km southeast of Dushanbe.
Since the beginning of the year, Russian border guards controlling the Tajik-Afghan border have seized 2,800 kg of drugs, including 1,750 kg of heroin.
