Methane exploded in a mine of the Kuznetsk coal basin, Kemerovo region, Eastern Siberia, the main coal-producing Russian region, killing a 37-year old miner.
The explosion took place on Wednesday evening in the Oktyabrskaya mine, the town of Polysayevo, in the old gallery where coal was no longer extracted. The gauge made after the explosion showed the dangerous concentration of the carbonic oxide, and a decision followed to immediately evacuate about 100 miners working there at that time. But one of them could not reach the surface and died being poisoned by the carbonic oxide.
The region's administration will render assistance to his family.
