Police aborted 170,000 crimes in Russia in 2002, according to Main Directorate for Police Security Guards of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Head Mikhail Sukhodolsky. He told Rosbalt on Thursday that at the current time his division has 350,000 employees and 180,000 of them are regular trained policeman. Sukhodolsky also said that in St. Petersburg each day approximately 20,000 employees come on watch and of them 8,000 are regular police. 'During St. Petersburg's 300th Anniversary celebrations our division will work be working in a specific regimen,' he said.
In Moscow there are about 50,000 employees in his division. 400,000 objects and 1.3 million apartments are under their watch, he said. 85 percent of the captial's objects in the banking sphere and 31,000 organizations are also under their watch. Sukhodolsky said that his employees' work was highly effective. For example, in the first quarter of 2003 their were only two burglaries committed on his division's watch.
