Cyprian Authorities To Extradite Russian Resident Detained On Interpol Request

Russian citizen Valery Mechanov, arrested by the Cyprian police several days ago in the city of Pathos on request of the Interpol, will be extradited to Russian lawenforcements on the basis of the agreement between the two countries, Cyprian Justice and Public Order Minister Nicos Koshis said. According to the Cyprian Minister, the Russian transgressor was arrested and extradited thanks to close cooperation between the two countries' secret services. The extradition of the Russian resident, who within April, 1999 - September, 2000 misappropriated over $50 mln of Russian budgetary funds through his firm, which was dealing in exports and imports, will be carried out within 18 days necessary to register documents. The Cyprian police say the investigation, aiming to identify possible accomplices of the Russian swindler, is currently being held in the country.
