President Eduard Shevardnadze of Georgia said on Monday that negotiations would be held with the Abkhazian side for the purpose of stabilizing the situation in Abkhazia. In a National Radio interview on October 8 Eduard Shevardnadze did not rule out the possibility of meeting with Anri Dzhergeniya, Premier of the government of the self-proclaimed Abkhazian Republic. The president of Georgia stressed that "the time has come to take decisions, of course, with due account for the interests of both the Georgian and the Abkhazian sides." At present, active consultations are conducted with all the interested sides, noted Eduard Shevardnadze, and everything will be done to prevent a complication of the situation in Abkhazia.
