Engineer units of the federal forces in the North Caucasus safely disposed of 20 explosive devices planted by guerrillas throughout the day Wednesday. A military spokesman told RIA Novosti most of the bombs were improvised. He added that up to 20 people were held on suspicion of having planted explosive devices within the region. The spokesman elaborated that engineer units also examined some 200 km of roads, some of them in the mountainous southern part of Chechnya, where they are mostly used by the federal troops. The military has extensively committed itself to the war-torn region's recovery effort, including the schools and medical facilities. Army engineers are currently reconstructing more than 500 sites. Today alone, they have reconstructed 25 km of power lines.
