A roadside bomb blasted in southern Afghanistan, killing a family of 5, including three young children, passing by on a motorbike.
Police report that 20 Taliban rebels were killed in a clash.
The family had been heading toward Tirin Kot, the provincial capital of Uruzgan province, to buy new clothes for the upcoming Muslim holiday of Eid, said provincial police chief Juma Gul Himat. The father and mother were accompanied by their two boys, ages 5 and 7, and their 2-year-old daughter, the AP reports.
The road they were on is frequently patrolled by NATO troops, Himat said. He blamed Taliban insurgents for the deaths.
