Russia welcomes the agreement between the Democratic republic of Congo and Rwanda, as RIA Novosti learned on Wednesday at the Russian foreign ministry's press and information department.
The UN Security Council considered the situation in Congo in connection with the agreement its government had signed on July 30th with Rwanda in order to normalize bilateral relations and reach full settlement in Congo.
The UN Security Council welcomed the agreement and expressed its gratitude to the South African government for assistance in the matter. The Council members voiced their intention "to carefully study the details of the new agreement".
Together with other interested parties and in compliance with the UN Security Council resolutions, Russia "will continue its active assistance for peaceful settling of the long-term conflict in Congo, which is destabilizing the situation around the Great African lakes and has brought sufferings to many people", the ministry pointed out.
