Sukhoi to manufacture new trainer aircraft

The first Su-49 trainer aircraft will be manufactured in spring or summer2003, a representative of the Sukhoi Aircraft Military and IndustrialComplex told RBC at the international air show of civil aviation inDomodedovo, Moscow region. The designing of the aircraft has been completedrecently and preparations for the manufacturing of the first sample havestarted. The model Su-49 plane is expected to cost between $300,000 and$700,000 depending on an aircraft's equipment.As it was reported earlier, Sukhoi won a tender on supplying the RussianAir Forces with trainer aircrafts. The Air Forces are to buy 300 planes andabout 1,000 planes are to be purchased by ROSTO (Russian Defense, Sport andTechnical Association). The question concerning the place of the aircrafts'production (the Lukhovitsky or Novosibirsk aircraft manufacturing plants)has not been defined yet, the representative pointed out. .
