Electricite de France ("EDF") and «Interros» Holding Company ("Interros") signed today in Moscow a memorandum of understanding regarding cooperation in the Russian electricity sector
The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Prime Minister of France, Jean-Pierre Raffarin, Nicole Fontaine, French Industry Minister, and Vladimir Potanin, President of «Interros», on the occasion of the 9th intergovernmental French-Russian seminar. The memorandum outlines the complementarities of both groups and declares their willingness to combine their efforts and competences, and to become together active participants in the restructuring process initiated by RAO UES.
In particular, «EDF» and «Interros» will seek opportunities to jointly manage Russian power assets, including potential participation in the tender for management of North Western Power Plant, which the Russian state-controlled monopoly RAO UES is planning to organise. The parties welcome the stated intention of RAO UES to conduct an open and transparent tender and, when needed, they will consider creating a joint management company for operation of this or other power facilities.
«EDF» is one of the leading global power companies, which operates in 24 countries, serves 47 million customers and has an installed capacity of almost 121 GW. Its main operations are electricity generation (nuclear, thermal, hydro, wind-power), energy trading, transmission, distribution, supply, and energy services.
«Interros» is one of the largest Russian private investment companies. Its main businesses include metals & mining («Norilsk Nickel»), financial services («Rosbank», «Soglasie» insurance company), media assets («Prof-Media»), agriculture and food processing («Agros»), energy and power generation equipment («Power Machines» - Russia’s largest power machine producer).
