Rescuers located a Russian member of a canoe expedition Friday, the first survivor found since the six-member group went missing in western China nearly three weeks ago, China's official Xinhua News Agency reported.

Chinese and Russian rescuers found the survivor along the banks of the upper reaches of the Yurungkax River on Friday morning, and the survivor, whose identity was not released, was being taken to Hotan city, Xinhua said.

The six Russians, who set out for a 12-day trip on Aug. 21, failed to make a scheduled rendezvous with a Chinese interpreter on Sept. 2. In the search since then, three members have been found dead, while two remain missing.
