A powerful earthquake rocked western Indonesia on Friday, triggering the latest in a series of tsunami warnings that have rattled residents along the coast, the meteorological agency said.
The underwater quake, which had a preliminary magnitude of 6.9, was centered 153 kilometers (95 miles) northwest of Bengkulu, the city onSumatra island that has been pounded by quakes and aftershocks since Wednesday's 8.4 tremor, the Meteorological and Geophysics Agency said.
Authorities issued a tsunami alert.
