Anti-personnel mine explodes in Sri Lanka

An anti-personnel mine exploded in northwestern Sri Lanka on Thursday, wounding two commandoes, the military said, in the latest threat to the country's fragile cease-fire.

The mine, which can be triggered by remote control, hit an armored personnel carrier of the Special Task Force, a commando unit raised to help the military in its battle against Tamil Tiger rebels, the Media Unit of the Defense Ministry said. The incident happened in Mannar district.

The two were shifted to a hospital. The extent of their injuries was not immediately known, reports the AP.
