Tajikistani Police seized more than 100 kilograms (220 pounds) of heroin, the Interior Ministry said Friday.
The drugs were uncovered in a car stopped at a checkpoint at the Shakhristan pass, about 120 kilometers (75 miles) north of the capital Dushanbe, said Dzhurakhon Zoirov, chief of the transport division of the Interior Ministry. The heroin was put in 104 plastic packages and hidden inside the tires, he said.
Tajikistan, an impoverished former Soviet republic in Central Asia, lies on a main route of drug trafficking from Afghanistan to Russia and Eastern Europe, reports the AP.
