German railways (Deutsche Bahn) and Polish state railways have agreed to the Russian Railways Ministry's proposal to introduce a daily Moscow-Berlin rail service. As the press office of the Russian ministry announced yesterday, this issue was discussed by the railway managers of Russia, Germany, Poland and Belarus at a meeting of the executive committee for the Moscow-Minsk-Warsaw-Berlin international transport corridor. At present the Moscow-Berlin train only runs three times a week during the winter and six times a week during the summer. This restricted timetable is a nuisance for those passengers needing to make the 1876-kilometre trip at short notice. In addition, they agreed to consider the possibility of German railways providing a TALGO tourist train from Berlin to Saint Petersburg via Kaliningrad. They also supported Russian Railways Minister Gennady Fadeyev's proposal to introduce lower tariffs on freight transported between Berlin and Moscow for a trial period in order to make rail transportation more attractive for those operating in the industry.
