The 36th conference of foreign ministers of the Association of South East Asian Nations opened in Cambodia on Monday.
Following the ministerial meeting, which is dedicated to regional security, the ministers will be joined on June 18-19 by their dialogue partners - foreign ministers of another 13 states, including Russia and the US.
The ministers are meeting under heightened security, with the streets of the Cambodian capital patrolled by army units and police who will be further reinforced when ministers from ASEAN partner countries arrive -- Australia, India, Canada, China, North Korea, Mongolia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Russia, the US, South Korea, Japan and the European Union.
