In Its Development, Russia's Northwest Will Follow Ireland

Alexei Butsailo, the Press Secretary of Viktor Cherkesov, the Plenipotentiary of the President of Russia in the Northwestern Federal District, said that in its development, Russia's Northwest would follow Ireland. Such was the outcome of the meeting in St. Petersburg's Taurida Palace of Mr. Cherkesov with James A. Sharkey, the Irish Ambassador in Russia.

The ambassador related the experience of his country that made an astounding development over a short period of time. While there was a time Ireland was called the vegetable garden or the backyard of Europe, now it is number 1 in software engineering. Mr. Sharkey believes that picking up science-intensive production may benefit the Northwestern Federal District of Russia because it is the focus of the interests of many foreign states, including those of Scandinavia.

The parties agreed to combine Irish experience with the potential of Russia's Northwest. Plenipotentiary Cherkesov named Mrs. Lyubov Sovershayeva as his representative to establish working connections with Ireland. Gerald Laisatt, the First Secretary of the Irish Embassy, will be her counterpart with the other party. Their meetings are expected to begin shortly.
