Moldova favours the withdrawal of Russian troops and weapons from the Transdniestrian republic's territory. According to a RIA Novosti correspondent, the Moldovan president Vladimir Voronin, who participates in the work of the ecological summit in Bucharest, told about this to journalists Monday. The Moldovan president expressed certainty that Russia would meet the obligations it had assumed at the Istanbul summit of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and would do its best to carry out this withdrawal according to schedule. Vladimir Voronin said that he eagerly anticipated his meeting with the Romanian president Ion Iliescu, which was due to take place on Tuesday. In Voronin's opinion, his official visit to Romania, which starts on May 1, as well as negotiations and concrete agreements "may open a new stage in their bilateral relations."
