Russia deems it necessary to develop a common strategy of globalization that would embrace the United Nations and other international organizations, including the Bretton-Wood Institutions and the World Trade Organization, as well as authoritative partners from the civil community. This has been made clear by the Russian delegation to the current 56th session of the UN General Assembly in New York City, reports the Foreign Ministry's information and press department. The Russian delegation has pointed out that international terrorism hinders sustainable development. "The recent terrorist acts in the U.S. and their implications for the world economy could not be disregarded in discussions of topical issues of global development and of priorities for international cooperation in the economic and environmental spheres in the Second Committee of the General Assembly," say Foreign Ministry spokespeople. All the delegates to the UN General Assembly session described international terrorism as a major global problem, generating political instability and distracting huge human and financial resources. Many of the delegations expressed serious concern about the anticipated recession of the global economy in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States. The leaders of the UN member states acknowledged the absolute necessity of boosting collective effort to solve present-day socio-economic, political, environmental and humanitarian problems as the process of economic globalization advances.
