Armenian President Meets With The Collective Security Council's Secretary General Valery Nikolayenko

Struggle against international terrorism is a priority for signatories to the Collective Security Treaty, Armenian President Robert Kocharyan said at a meeting with the Secretary General of the Collective Security Council, Valery Nikolayenko, and the Secretary General of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Mikhail Krotov. The participants in the meeting discussed the situation which has taken shape in the world after the September 11 terrorist attacks and, in this context, tasks set to the Council. The Collective Security Treaty was signed by nine CIS countries on May 15, 1992, in Tashkent. In 1999, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Uzbekistan declined to extend their participation in the treaty. Now there are six signatories to the Collective Security Treaty - Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.
